MEET THE TEAM

Portrait of a woman with a confident expression.

Dr. Chinonyelum Anyanwu

When a child is born with special needs, it could be an overwhelming experience for the family. My passion is facilitating options for individuals with special needs and their families to achieve desired outcomes. I support individuals with special needs, their families, and their guardians as they explore their maximum potential by providing skills that foster self-advocacy and independence skills. I also support equity, diversity, and inclusive practices in the learning environment.

Since we are all differently abled, there should be varied approaches to teaching and learning based on individual strengths. My expertise includes targeted effective student-centered differentiating, accommodating, and modifying individualized education plans.

My educational background includes a BA in Education, MA in Curriculum and Instruction, MA in Special Education, and Ph.D. in Advanced Human Behavior. My professional experience spans four decades in Texas public schools teaching General Education, English as a second language, Special Education, and working as a special education Evaluation Specialist.

Families with special needs children face significant challenges. These families need resources to cope and overcome difficulties. I aim to provide support services that help children achieve self-care, independence, and their maximum potential, while also training families to reinforce skills at home.

As a healthcare educator for over 40 years, my goal has been to help students reach their potential. I recognize that learning styles vary, and I strive to identify strengths and support skill development with personalized curriculum planning.

My academic background is B.Sc. in Pharmacology and a minor in Human Physiology, M.Sc. in Pharmacology, and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Therapeutics. I served as Lecturer/Senior Lecturer at the College of Medicine of the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus for 15 years; visiting Assistant Professor/ECFMG Fellow at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas and finally as Professor of Pathophysiology and Pharmacology in the College of Nursing of Prairie View A&M University, Texas for 24 years.
